Course description

Skills in monitoring and evaluation of health projects are crucial to the successful design, and implementation of monitoring and control of health programs. Monitoring and evaluation, and sharing of results have been increasingly emphasized by national and international policymakers and program managers. This training course focuses on building the capacity of health professionals by providing training in monitoring and evaluation tools and techniques.

Target group

This course targets students, Managers in Project or Programme Monitoring and Evaluation, Evaluation advisors and consultants, Internal and external evaluators, Evaluation units of International NGOs and international agencies in the health field

Learning outcomes

After completing the course participants should be able to:

  • Understand basic principles of monitoring and evaluation
  • Understand the basic concepts and practical approaches for performance monitoring and evaluation
  • Gain hands-on experience in designing monitoring and evaluation plans
  • Understand the concept of Data Analyses

 

Course content

Training covers the fundamental concepts and tools in monitoring and evaluating programs including:

  • Overview of the project cycle and key M&E concepts
  • Problem identification, problem analysis, objective analysis
  • Stakeholders’ analysis and Risk/SWOT analysis
  • Program strategic direction: vision, mission, objectives, strategies, activities, resources
  • Developing SMART health indicators
  • Logical and results frameworks
  • Developing health project implementation plans
  • Setting up an M&E health system/documentation of the M&E plan
  • Tools, methods, and sources of M&E data
  • Reporting in M&E: data, health indicators, interpretation
  • Quality assurance of M&E data
  • M&E report writing
  • Project/program evaluation: planning, designing, implementation

Training methods

This course will be available on face-to-face and Online. It will encompass specific facilitator inputs (e.g. lecture presentations), combined with a variety of interactive learning activities, including structured group work, demonstrations, group and individual reflection, role plays, self-study and writing, and plenary discussions

Mode of assessment

The course will be assessed using pre and post-tests, continuous progressive tests, presentations, and group discussions

Award

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with a certificate from Uganda Christian University.

Training venue

The training will be conducted at UCU School of Medicine campus Mengo or any other venue communicated in advance.

Payment

A training fee of UGX 450,000 will be charged for the course. This covers tuition fees, learning materials, and training venue. Payment should be sent to our bank account before the start of training and proof of payment sent to ucusom@admin.ucu.ac.ug NOTE: Foreign currencies will be converted using prevailing forex rates.
