In addition to regular UCU requirements for all students, the following applies:
• Applicants for this Programme must have at least a second-class degree or its equivalent in Development Studies, the humanities or any other fields relevant to human service from an accredited university;

• Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the goal of human emancipation from all form of deprivation.

Two years, with five years to finish

The Master of Development Studies Programme at Uganda Christian University is designed to provide development workers and policy makers with practical skills in handling issues of development and policy with commitment, integrity, and firm Christian values.

In grooming development practitioners seeking to widen their knowledge and sharpen their skills in dealing with development issues, the following topics are covered: development policy design, analysis and implementation, principles of development economics, human resource managements, and gender based violence, international human rights law, and social entrepreneurship, among others.

At the end of the Programme, students should be able to conduct scientific research that can contribute to evidence- based policy decisions and strategies for poverty reduction, carry out needs assessment, plan, mobilize resources and implement projects as well as monitor and evaluate their effectiveness, identify the societal injustice prevalent today, and be able to respond to them and develop effective development models that can transform society.
