On 24 September 2025, the Uganda Christian University (UCU) School of Law made history at the East African Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Court Competition held at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Having earlier won the national finals, the UCU team represented Uganda at the regional stage and went on to emerge as the overall winners.
The team’s performance was outstanding, scooping both the Best Overall Team title and the Best Applicant Memorial Award. Their victory came with a prize of USD 1,500 and a fully funded trip to attend the upcoming Privacy Symposium Africa (PSA) in Lagos, Nigeria, scheduled for 26–28 November 2025.

The UCU team comprised Ajambo Sandra (LLB3, Lead Counsel and Oralist), Heather Stacy Kutamba (LLB3, Oralist), Eunice Nantongo Wangabira (LLB3, Researcher), and Diana Nassuna (LLB3, Researcher).
In the grand finale, UCU defeated Strathmore University (Kenya) in a tightly contested round. The final bench was presided over by Justice Duncan Gaswaga of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, alongside judges from the East African Court of Justice.
The win came after a rigorous elimination process where teams from Tanzania and Rwanda were knocked out, leaving UCU as the East African champion.

This achievement highlights the dedication of the School of Law’s leadership and staff. Under the guidance of Dr. Peter Mutesasira, Dean of the School of Law, and with the direct mentorship of Mr. Joel Basoga, Lecturer and Moots Coordinator, the team received the training and support needed to compete at the highest regional level. Their role in preparing students for such platforms continues to strengthen UCU’s reputation as a hub for legal excellence in East Africa.
This triumph builds on UCU’s strong moot tradition. In 2024, the university’s team had been recognized as the Best Ugandan Team and won the Best Oralist award in the same competition. This year’s success demonstrates UCU’s consistent commitment to nurturing legal excellence, critical thinking, and innovation among its students.
