Students from Uganda Christian University’s School of Journalism, Media and Communication delivered an outstanding performance at the Media Challenge Initiative’s Africa Newsroom Contest, held October 30, 2026. They secured top honours across multiple categories.
The UCU team claimed first place in the Radio Contest and emerged as overall winners of the AI Hackathon.
They also finished as 1st runners-up in the TV (English) category and placed 4th in the Legendary TV Contest. These results reflect the students’ strong storytelling skills, technical competence, and ability to innovate at the intersection of journalism and technology.

The victories reflect the quality of practical training and mentorship offered by the School of Journalism, Media and Communication. Competing against peers from across the continent, the students demonstrated creativity, professionalism, and a clear understanding of contemporary media demands; particularly in radio production, television storytelling, and the application of artificial intelligence in newsrooms.
The School congratulates the participating students, their lecturers, and everyone who supported the teams. These achievements reinforce UCU’s commitment to preparing media professionals who can excel both locally, on the continental and global stages.

Congratulations to all the winners.
