More than 70 clergy children from across the Church of Uganda gathered at Kingdom View in Mukono on June 23 for the Trinity Semester Clergy Children’s Mentorship Program, a transformative initiative organized by the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Church Relations Department.
Held under the theme, “My Identity and Authority as a Clergy Child,” the program provided a unique platform for participants to reflect on their faith, identity, and purpose while engaging with peers who share similar experiences of growing up in ministry families.
The mentorship session was led by Rev. Dr. Richard Mulindwa, Head of Church Relations at UCU, who challenged the young people to understand and embrace their identity in Christ, recognizing that their upbringing places them in a unique position to influence both the Church and society.
Drawing from Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,” Rev. Dr. Mulindwa emphasized that true authority and leadership begin with a personal relationship with God and a commitment to living according to His purpose.
“Many clergy children grow up under public scrutiny and high expectations,” he said. “Yet God has not called you merely to carry the identity of your parents. He has called you individually, gifted you uniquely, and entrusted you with a purpose that is distinctly yours. Walk confidently, not in pride, but in the assurance that your identity is rooted in Christ.”
The gathering created a safe and supportive environment where participants openly discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with being clergy children. Through mentorship, fellowship, and reflection, they explored how to navigate expectations, build resilience, strengthen their faith, and develop leadership qualities that will enable them to serve effectively in their communities.
The program reflects UCU’s longstanding commitment to supporting the ministry of the Church through intentional discipleship and leadership development. As a university founded on Christian values, UCU continues to invest in initiatives that nurture the next generation of servant leaders, recognizing that the future strength of the Church depends on young people who are grounded in faith, character, and purpose.
For many participants, the mentorship program offered more than encouragement. It provided affirmation that their experiences matter, their voices are valued, and their identity extends beyond the title of “clergy child” to a deeper calling as children of God.
The Trinity Semester Clergy Children’s Mentorship Program is one of several initiatives through which the Church Relations Department strengthens partnerships between UCU and the Church of Uganda. By creating spaces for spiritual growth, mentorship, and community, the department continues to empower clergy families while preparing young people to become faithful Christian leaders and agents of transformation in society.
As the session concluded, participants left challenged to lead lives marked by wisdom, faith, and service, carrying with them a renewed understanding that their authority and purpose are ultimately found in Christ.
