How UCU Students Created a “Blue Light” to Enhance Road Safety

Uganda Christian University (UCU) emerged as the Champion and Best Overall Team of the Chaloka Beyani International Refugee Law Moot Court Competition which happened from 13-14 November 2025 at Strathmore University, Nairobi Kenya.

The team comprised Abraham B. Wanyanga, Abigail Namanya, and Stuart Ssemwogerere, with support from Kamatsiko Desire and Frederick Mongoyi. UCU triumphed over Strathmore University in the final round presided over by a panel of eminent jurists and refugee law practitioners led by the Hon. Justice Daniel Musinga the President of the Court of Appeal of Kenya. Abraham B. Wanyanga was also awarded as the Best Oralist in the competition.

The competition brought together 11 universities from across East Africa. UCU distinguished itself as the top team in the preliminary rounds and ultimately as the Best Overall Team in the competition. This marks UCU’s second regional championship this year ( after the Winning the Regional East Africa Unwanted Witness Privacy Moot Competition in Dar es Salaam) , in addition to winning three national titles in the Jessup Moot, the Unwanted Witness Moot, and the International Humanitarian Law Moot in 2025.
