Uganda Christian University (UCU) has been commended for its sustained investment in sports infrastructure and organisation as it hosts the 20th edition of the University Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) Games, bringing together delegates, athletes, and officials from across the country.

This was revealed by Joseph Oluga, the assistant General Secretary (Administration) for Uganda National Council of Sports (NCS), while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 20th AUUS Games 2025.

“Beyond infrastructure, UCU’s hospitality is exceptional. The people are friendly, and the meals are first-class,” he added.

As Uganda prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Kenya and Tanzania, Joseph said universities like UCU will play a critical role in talent identification and development, leveraging both institutional and public sports facilities.

The President of the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS), Mr George Wagoogo, praised UCU for its readiness and commitment, noting that the games mark a major milestone for university sports in Uganda.

” From 18th to 25th December, this beautiful campus becomes the heartbeat of university sport in Uganda,” Wagoogo said. “We are grateful to the administration of Uganda Christian University for accepting to host the 20th House Games and for the remarkable preparation demonstrated over the past months.”

While addressing the audience on behalf of the Local organising committee, the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration, David Mugawe, said that “We celebrate what God has blessed us with a beautiful campus, excellent facilities and a supportive community,” a UCU official said. “Throughout the games, participants will enjoy these facilities in a safe and welcoming environment.”

This year’s AUUS Games have attracted a record 22 universities, with about 2,500 athletes competing in 19 disciplines under the theme “Promoting a Healthy Campus.” UCU noted that the games celebrate not only athletic excellence, but also leadership, organisation and administration.
