The project explores an integrated approach to developing solutions for urban and peri-urban environs which integrates management of waste and sanitation while generating much needed clean cooking fuels such as biogas and other by-products such as organic fertilizer needed to boost agriculture while adding value to products like milk through preservation using clean and improved technologies like biogas refrigerators/coolers. Adopting a multi-nexus approach including sanitation-energy-agriculture-environment, the project team was involved in improving and developing portable biodigesters, assessing the use of bioslurry from the digester as organic fertilizer and design/ fabrication of a bio cooler, component that can be used by local farmers.
