This study aims to investigate the financial inclusion of semi-literate individuals in Rukiga District, Uganda, where significant barriers hinder their access to financial services. Despite advancements in financial inclusion initiatives such as mobile money and microfinance, semi-literate populations remain disproportionately excluded. The research aims to assess the current levels of access and usage of financial services, evaluate the effectiveness of existing programs, and identify challenges faced by this demographic.
The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to capture both measurable data and personal experiences. It is grounded in theories of financial literacy and the vulnerabilities faced by specific demographic groups. Findings will inform evidence-based recommendations to enhance financial inclusion strategies tailored to the needs of semi-literate individuals. The study is justified by the need for targeted interventions that accommodate literacy limitations and the broader policy government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga. By addressing the unique challenges faced by semi-literate populations, this research aims to contribute to poverty reduction and economic empowerment in rural Uganda. Ultimately, it seeks to provide insights that can guide financial institutions, policymakers, and development partners in designing accessible and effective financial services for underserved communities. An appropriate Financial Literacy Manual to enhance Financial Inclusion among Semi-Literate Populations in Rukiga district will be developed.
