Uganda Christian University

June 7, 2026- Archbishop Emeritus of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Henry Luke Orombi, has officially launched a road at UCU’s Main Campus in Mukono, named in his honour. The Henry Orombi Road, stretching from the Bishop Tucker Gate to the Main Gate, marks both a tribute to the retired cleric and former Chancellor, and a visible milestone in the University’s seven-year Campus Transformation Initiative.

The day began with a sermon by Archbishop Orombi at ThornyCroft Chapel — Kyaggwe Congregation in Nkoyoyo Hall, followed by a campus tour that included a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly named road. He was subsequently hosted at a luncheon with the University Management team and members of the UCU community, presided over by Vice Chancellor Professor Aaron Mushengyezi.

Addressing the gathering, Archbishop Orombi praised the transformation the institution has undergone since its days as Bishop Tucker Theological College, a history he knows intimately. “UCU built me up,” he told the audience. “I sing the praise of UCU wherever I go because I believe what they put in students here is special.”

On the subject of legacy, he offered a reflection on the importance of graceful endings: “Let your departure be good so that you can always come back; if you don’t finish well, it’s hard to come back.”

The day’s programme also included tree planting, a visit to the ThornyCroft Chapel Sanctuary Grounds, a gift handover, and remarks from the Vice Chancellor.
