Uganda Christian University (UCU) has signed a partnership agreement with Vision Group, Uganda’s largest media conglomerate, naming it the lead media partner for the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at the Anglican Shrine in Namugongo. The partnership, formalised at a signing ceremony attended by senior officials from both institutions, is aimed at delivering more impactful and diverse storytelling about the martyrs ahead of the June 3 commemorations.
Speaking at the ceremony, UCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi said the collaboration reflects a deliberate effort to move beyond conventional narratives.
“It is right and fitting that we partner with Vision Group, which is a centre of excellence in media, just as UCU is a centre of excellence in education,” Prof. Mushengyezi said. “We do not want to repeat the usual path. We are going to tell the story of the martyrs from different angles and perspectives so that the world can appreciate what they stood for, their faith and their contribution to our country.”
Vision Group Chief Executive Officer Don Wanyama described the partnership as one rooted in shared values of service and excellence rather than commercial interest.
“This partnership reflects shared values. Our drive is not profit-focused but to serve professionally and aspire for excellence,” Wanyama said. “We are honoured to formalise our role as the lead media partner for the 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at the Anglican site.”
Wanyama added that Vision Group would deploy its full range of platforms; including television, radio, print, digital, and outdoor advertising, to ensure wide coverage of the celebrations. He also committed to producing a documentary legacy and highlighted pre-event activities such as the National Martyrs Schools Festival, which will feature choirs from across the country.
“We agree that the story must be told differently, more captivatingly, without losing its essence,” he emphasised.

UCU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Rev. Assoc. Prof. John M. Kitayimbwa, said the university had taken the responsibility of organising the celebrations with seriousness and dedication.
“We have taken on this responsibility with great seriousness and joy. It is an honour for UCU to lead the 2026 celebrations at the Anglican Shrine,” said Prof. Kitayimbwa, who is the Central Organizing Committee Chairperson.
He emphasized the need for strong communication in delivering the message of the day.
“If we are to successfully communicate the gospel and the significance of this day, we need the best, and that is why we are partnering with Vision Group,” he said. Prof Kitayimbwa revealed that the government had already released Shs2 billion to support preparations, with infrastructure upgrades ongoing at Namugongo.
“New facilities have been built, existing ones upgraded, and infrastructure improved to ensure a memorable experience for pilgrims,” he said, further announced sponsorship opportunities under various tiers, calling on partners to support the event.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Omara Cyrus Samson assured the public of adequate security during the celebrations. “We expect pilgrims from across the country and beyond. We are ready to ensure that everyone arrives safely and that the celebrations are secure,” he said.

Beyond the Martyrs Day events, the partnership is expected to lay the foundation for a long-term collaboration between UCU and Vision Group in areas such as education, youth engagement, faith, and national development.
