MUKONO, UGANDA — Uganda Christian University (UCU) has formally entered a strategic media partnership with Vision Group to coordinate the upcoming 2026 Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations. The announcement follows a high-level consultative meeting held on March 4, 2026, aimed at establishing a comprehensive framework for the national event.
As the lead institution appointed to organize the celebrations at the Namugongo Anglican Site, UCU is spearheading a “business unusual” approach to the historic milestone. This collaboration seeks to move beyond standard event coverage to ensure a deeper national and spiritual impact.
The meeting was led by Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa, UCU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Chairperson of the 2026 Martyrs Day Organizing Committee, alongside Mr. Don Wanyama, Chief Executive Officer of Vision Group.
Strategic Pillars of the Partnership
The collaboration is built upon four primary pillars designed to enhance the experience of the June 3rd celebrations:
1. Historical Documentation: UCU and Vision Group will collaborate on the comprehensive archiving and dissemination of the Martyrs’ legacy, ensuring historical preservation for future generations.
2. Youth Empowerment: The partnership includes targeted initiatives to intentionally inform and involve the younger generation in the significance of the Martyrs Day celebrations.
3. Cultural Excellence: Both entities will work on the strategic planning and implementation of the National Martyrs Choral Festival.
4. National Dialogue: The partnership will facilitate balanced national conversations centered on themes of peace, reconciliation, and unity.
Theme and Coordination
The 2026 celebrations will be held under the theme: “Christ Our Peace: Breaking the Walls, Healing the Nations.” Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa emphasized that UCU remains committed to working in close coordination with the Church of Uganda, the Government of Uganda, and private sector stakeholders to ensure the celebrations are both spiritually enriching and nationally unifying.
UCU and Vision Group invite the general public to remain engaged as further updates and schedules are released in the lead-up to the 2026 event.
The partnership meeting was attended by among others former Board member of New Vision, who is also Professor at UCU, Monica Chibita, Harriet Adong Atuyambe, the UCU Director of Communication and Public Relations and Christa Oluka, the UCU Director of Quality Assurance an Operations.
