UCU 26th graduation (Part One) Tomorrow: Over 1500 to graduate.

Uganda Christian University (UCU) will on Thursday, July 4, 2025, host its 26th Graduation Ceremony – Part One – marking yet another milestone in the institution’s history. According to Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, preparations are complete and the university is ready to host parents, students, well-wishers, and friends.

“The event will start at exactly 7:30am, as is our tradition. We aim to conclude by 11:30am, so we urge all guests and graduands to be seated by 7:00am,” he said.

This year’s ceremony will be graced by a special guest, Dr. Philip Ryken, the President of Wheaton College, USA, who has traveled across continents to celebrate with the UCU community.

Prof. Kitayimbwa emphasized the importance of dressing decently for the occasion, saying,

“We encourage everyone – not just students – to dress in a way that brings glory and honor to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

Mr. David Mugawe, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, highlighted the significance of this year’s ceremony, revealing that UCU will graduate a total of 1,524.

Of the total, 860 are female (56%) and 664 are male (44%), a reflection of the gender distribution across the university’s programs. This year also sees 49 students attaining First Class honors – 24 females and 25 males.

Some of the students set to graduate with a first class

Among the standout performers are Diana Nansubuga, the best female student and top science graduate with a GPA of 4.8 in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Timothy Kirabo emerges as the best male and overall student with a GPA of 4.96 in Bachelor of Procurement and Logistics Management. Kirabo is also recognized as the top student in humanities and arts.

Prof. Kitayimbwa further underscored a remarkable academic milestone in UCU’s School of Law.

“Since 2019, we have only had two students graduate with First Class degrees in Bachelor of Laws and they are both graduating this year,” he noted.

Both students are from UCU’s Kampala Campus. Moses Waiswa, the former Guild President of that campus, scored a GPA of 4.47, becoming the top student in the Bachelor of Laws program. He is joined by Ian Ndamwesiga, who attained a GPA of 4.45.

“This is a significant achievement considering UCU graduates the highest number of law students in the country,” Prof. Kitayimbwa added.

Prof. Elizabeth Kukunda Bacwayo, Director of the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, spoke on the structure and success of UCU’s postgraduate programs.

“Most of our postgraduate programs are online to allow working professionals to balance studies with their careers, though we maintain some physical interactions,” she said.

She further noted that this year, one of the postgraduate classes has had all students completing on time – a rare and commendable feat. Among the graduates are four PhD candidates in Education and Management – three men and one woman.

Assoc. Prof. Angella Napakol, Director of Academic Affairs, highlighted the university’s values and the impact of mentorship in shaping UCU graduates.

“We’re confident that the mentorship and values we instill in our students prepare them to be exactly what UCU envisions them to be,” she said.

She further highlighted that UCU boasts 11 faculties and schools offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Notably, the School of Law, School of Medicine, and School of Dentistry continue to attract national attention for their excellence.

As the university opens its gates for this historic event, it extends an open invitation to potential applicants to join its vibrant academic community.
