Zabina Nambozo, a talented midfielder and second-year Bachelor of Social Work and Social Administration student at Uganda Christian University Mbale University College, has recently been called up to the U20 Crested Cranes national team as preparations intensify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers.
Nambozo reported to camp in peak physical condition and featured as Uganda faced Zambia on 7 February 2026 at FUFA Stadium Kadiba, with the first leg ending in a draw (1-1). The return leg of the crucial qualifier is scheduled for 14 February 2026 in Lusaka, Zambia.
Her inclusion reflects her consistent performances in the FUFA Women Super League and her successful transition from the youth ranks to the senior national team. Nambozo previously represented Uganda at the 2024 Africa Women Cup of Nations in Egypt and continues to demonstrate her creativity, versatility and composure in midfield qualities that add valuable depth to Crested Cranes Coach Sheryl Botes’ tactical setup.
Since joining UCU in 2024, Nambozo has inspired fellow students through her discipline and commitment both on and off the field. In 2025, she played a key role in helping UCU secure silver at the AUUS Women’s Football Games, earning recognition as an outstanding player and underlining her adaptability across positions.
For the UCU community, her national team call-up is a source of immense pride and a strong reflection of the university’s dedication to nurturing elite sporting talent alongside academic excellence.
As the Crested Cranes prepare for the decisive return leg in Lusaka, all eyes will be on the in-form midfielder to see how she continues to translate her collegiate success onto the international stage.
