Elimu Joshua’s journey highlights a shift from the world of business accounting to the calling of ordained ministry, punctuated by a surprising stint as a fresh potato vendor.

He pursued a Diploma in Business Studies with an accounting focus, completing his education in 2009. As opposed to entering a corporate career, He made a pragmatic decision in 2012 to start selling fresh potatoes in Soroti market in a bid to support his growing family. “I believed that selling potatoes could not sustain me or my family, so I chose to sell potatoes to provide for their needs.”

A significant turning point for our overall best male student came in 2018 when he received a call to ministry. As a church teacher first he went on to obtain a provincial lay leader certificate and served diligently for three years. Ultimately, his service led to the call to ordained ministry where he received a first class degree in Bachelor of Divinity.

The transition into full-time ministry and theological training was not without its challenges, a three year separation from his family is top. “My wife has been so strong, she knew the reason I was here as leader of the home for three years. I am grateful.”

Joshua  applauded his  lecturers for crucial guidance in their academic environment and serving as mentors and guiding and leading them through every step of the programme.

Reflecting on personal relationships, Elimu referenced the importance of surrounding oneself with the right people. Value friends who “matter, who can share reasonable advice, have a vision, and not lead you astray.”

From selling potatoes to ordained ministry, Joshua’s story is a testament to following personal conviction and the power of familial support.
