Uganda Christian University (UCU) has officially received the renovated Dunstan Bukenya Library, the School of Theology library, from Masterlines International Limited, the contractors. The handover took place on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The handover was attended by key university officials, including the Dean of the Bishop Tucker School of Divinity and Theology, Prof. Christopher Byaruhanga, University Librarian Mr. David Bukenya, and Eng. David Kivumbi, Director of Facilities and Capital Projects. They all expressed gratitude to the university leadership, particularly the Vice Chancellor Canon. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, for the vision of upgrading a library with deep historical significance to the institution.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, Mr. David Mugawe, commended Masterlines International Limited for completing the project in record time. He emphasized the importance of preserving the renovated facility calling on users to handle it responsibly and report areas that may need rectification.
Masterlines International CEO, Eng. Emmanuel Tumusiime, noted that the project was not without challenges, as they took over after another contractor who had partially done the work. “Taking on this project was not easy since it required fresh planning, but we are grateful that UCU trusted us and embraced our ideas, which made it possible to deliver the building as it stands today,” he said.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Mushengyezi, in his remarks, thanked the contractors and the library staff for their patience and resilience throughout the renovation period. “I have walked around the newly completed work, and I say, Glory to God,” he said. “This project is part of the Campus Transformation Initiative, under which we are renovating key buildings. It is better to do one thorough job and complete it than to carry out patchwork. In the long run, comprehensive renovation saves more money and ensures sustainability.”

The renovated Dunstan Bukenya Library is now expected to provide an improved learning and research environment for theology students and the wider UCU community. This library is named after the retired Rt. Rev. Dr. Dunstan Kopoliano Bukenya, the first University Secretary of UCU (equivalent to the current Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration). He also served as the third Bishop of Mityana Diocese from 2002 to 2008.
