GenZ Social Media Week ends with a bang

By Ronnie Awany

It felt like bliss, like freedom!

Uganda Christian University (UCU) GenZ Social Media Week wasn’t a regular one.

During the course of the week, 12th-16th April 2021, participants stood a chance to win UCU branded freebies such as; T-shirts, notebooks, pens, wristbands etc.

MTN Uganda offered free 500MB data to all subscribers and 3GB to 100 subscribers of the #MTNPulse.

Century Bottling Company gave students soft drinks, and two students with the best social media engagement during the week won Tuition Top-ups courtesy of the Guild Government.

The event was organized by the Communication and Marketing Department together with the Guild Government to sensitize students, staff, alumni and other stakeholders about the University’s social media pages and to increase the UCU social media membership and visibility.

The week concluded with a keynote address by the head of Community Policing at the Uganda Police Force, Commissioner Anatoli Muleterwa, who represented the President of Ugandans on Twitter, Assistant Inspector General of Police Asan Kasingye.

The session was attended by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi and Deputy Vice Chancellor Finance and Administration, David Mugawe together with Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, and members of the Guild Cabinet.

Prof. Mushengyezi said the week is proof that UCU is migrating from traditional methods of operations to the digital approach.

Then followed the #FollowBackConcert, where performances by poetry group Azania, comedian Uncle Mark, dance groups and other magicians headlined the evening.

The hashtag #LikeFollowShare was the theme for the week.
