Uganda Christian University (UCU) has hosted the Annual Church of Uganda Heads of Education Institutions Association (COHEIA) Conference.

The conference attracted over 200 head teachers and other heads of institutions as well the Diocesan Education Secretaries. This year’s conference was held under the theme “Improving Professional Training of Teachers for Better Learning”

The UCU Chancellor and the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, called upon the Government of Uganda to expedite importation of the Covid-19 vaccine or come up with strategies of keeping learners at school.

“I strongly recommend that the phased resumption plan of education institutions should be expedited due to the challenges brought about by the lockdown.”

He also added that prolonged closer of education institutions is likely to rob the future of many children.

The Ambassador of Germany to Uganda, His Excellency Matthias Schauer, who was also the Chief Guest, said that the pandemic has affected teachers economically yet they are important for the nation.

“You have our future in your hands because you are helping young people. Your challenges must be a priority to the country”

The UCU Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, promised to set up mutually beneficial partnership between UCU and COHEIA to conduct short professional courses which will retool teachers and clergy for professional development.
