UCU second in Business Analysis Challenge

Uganda Christian University (UCU) students from the faculty of Business and Administration have emerged second in the Chattered Financial Analysts (CFA) research challenge. The event which was the 5th annual competition, took place on Tuesday February 4 at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala.

In the race that saw Kyambogo emerge victorious, UCU battled with seven other universities including; Makerere, Uganda Martyrs, Makerere University Business School, International University of East Africa, Cavendish, Ndejje and Kyambogo.

The UCU team mentor, Ms. Loraine Akinyi, integrity played the primary role in raising the team to the second position.

“Our team really worked so hard and they were respectful,” Akinyi said.

She said the team’s performance was impressive because most of the participants were off semester and could not meet frequently for training, unlike other universities.

The Judges considered among many criteria; the power point out look, confidence in answering questions and team work.

“I marveled at how the best two groups’ power point presentations looked, they were so neat and professional,” remarked one of the judges.

Akinyi said that had it not been for the nervousness of the UCU team, she was “pretty sure” that they would have won.

“Our integrity convicted us not to chip into the presentation another model that we had forgotten in the first round of the competition. We decided to stand for the truth,” Swabullah, one of the students who represented UCU said.

According to Loraine, at least 95 percent of the work presented to the judges was done by the students. She further said that they would start the mentorship for next year’s competition as early as May so that they may win.

The CFA Challenge tests students and empowers them with practical business analysis skills.

Until this year, UCU had last participated in the challenge in 2018 where it came sixth.
