UCU Internet gets a boost

Our culture continues moving toward becoming a completely online society. With slow Internet connection, it can be frustrating.

It’s no surprise that Uganda Christian University (UCU) has received two switches from Uganda National Research and Education Network (RENU) to handle its growing network traffic. The two switches were handed over to UCU’s Vice Chancellor Dr. John Senyonyi.

Nicholas Mbonimpa, the Acting Chief Executive Officer RENU, said UCU is one of its long-time clients, and as part of giving back; they have donated the two switches worth 40 million shillings.

The Director University ICT services, Perez Matsiko, said that normally as the network traffic grows, the University needs equipment that are able to handle such increase in traffic so that network performance does not slow down.

“UCU network usage has been growing, meaning that there is an increase in traffic. So, such equipment, are able to handle traffic and network speed,” said Perez.

He added that the two switches have a robust processing power almost ten times more than the switches the university is currently using.
