Uganda Christian University (UCU) in partnership with Mengo Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Medical School Project on Tuesday 6th December 2016. The MOU was signed at the Church of Uganda Provincial Offices in presence of the The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, and also Patron of Mengo Hospital.
Also present was Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese. Others were the Mengo Hospital Board members and its Senior Management, UCU Senior Management, Members of the Provincial Secretariat of the Church of Uganda, and the Press.
The UCU Vice Chancellor, Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi, informed members that the Medical School will start admitting students in the Trinity (May) Semester with not more than 50 students for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) programme and 20 for Bachelor of Dental Science programme.
His Grace Stanley Ntagali congratulated both institutions for the milestone achieved. “We thank the Lord for this great thing He has done for both UCU the “A Centre of Excellence in the Heart of Africa”, and Mengo Hospital the oldest hospital in Uganda, both of which are Church founded institutions”.
Mr. James Serufusa, the Chair of the Mengo Hospital Board was gratified that a Medical School was to start at Mengo Hospital, which was the dream of the Founder, Sir Albert Cook.
