The highest office in the students’ forum at Uganda Christian University brought two ladies into the race. Moreen Akatukunda and Prisca Amongin managed to bit all odds to make it to this year’s final guild presidential race over other four male contenders that didn’t make it through vetting.
The students’ guild elections that were held on November 2nd, 2016, brought Prisca to the prestigious office of the Guild President of UCU. Ms. Prisca Amongin, a 24 years, second year student of Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance won with a total of 1463 votes over her rival Moreen with a total of 729 votes, a margin of 734 votes and a total of 141 invalid votes of the total votes cast.
Prisca obtained the highest number of votes from her faculty; Faculty of Business & Administration 560, 209 from the faculty of Social Sciences,219 from law,69 Health Sciences 69, 221 Education and 196 votes from the faculty of Science and Technology.
While her rival Moreen, also obtained the highest number of votes from her faculty, the Faculty of Law 252, 100 votes from Social Sciences, Business 162,Health Sciences 17,Education 98 and 100 votes from Science and Technology.
The chairperson electoral commission (EC), Feni Desmond, after announcing the results in Nkoyoyo Hall, called for peace and harmony among the presidential guild aspirants.
“This is a historical moment in the University and my life as well as a big challenge. I have to meet the expectations of the students, administration and my academics”, Prisca said.
With her slogan “pursuing excellence”, Prisca promises to lead UCU to excellence in speech, conduct and academics.
