Job Description:

Job Title:   Dean of Students

Rank:         CUM 4

Reports to: Principal

Uganda Christian University (UCU), a private institution founded in 1997 by the Province of the Church of Uganda is dedicated through teaching, scholarship, service, spiritual formation, student development and social involvement, to the preparation of students for thoughtful, productive lives of Christian faith and service in their respective professions and places.

The main purpose of the job is to develop and run a vibrant student Directorate that meets the needs of a growing University student community.


  1. Must be a person of strong faith and integrity, a committed Christian with a clear testimony;
  2. The prospective candidate must:
    1. Be a holder of at least a Masters Degree or its equivalent in any of the following fields; Counseling Psychology, Public Administration, Human Resource in Education Administration, Sociology, Public Relations, Educational Administration or Theology from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
    2. Be a holder of a Bachelors degree in any of the fields mentioned in (a) from a recognized institution of Higher learning;
    3. Have at least five (5) years working experience in a University at position of Dean of Students or Warden of a sizable University hall, Head Teacher in a well established secondary school, Chaplain in a University context or leader of an organization /ministry that deals with University / College Students.

Job Description:

  1. Give general oversight for Student affairs for the University and its Regional Campuses. The Director is the overall coordinator of student life throughout the University;
  2. Innovate, plan, implement, supervise and monitor the strategic departmental activities and annual action plans and budgets;
  3. Plan for and supervise accommodation facilities for all categories of students;
  4. Innovate, plan and supervise students’ catering services and welfare services;
  5. Plan and supervise sports activities in and outside the University;
  6. Organize and supervise entertainment, cultural and social activities, club activities and other students’ organizations;
  7. Liaise with the outside community, especially the local community around the University, in matters concerning the students;
  8. Provide basic counseling services for the students;
  9. Be the primary liaison mediating between students and the administration/academic offices;
  10. Execute and organize students’ judicial system at all levels;
  11. Supervise the students’ Guild leadership and all Guild activities;
  12. Plan, coordinate, develop and appraise the human resources of the departmental staff;
  13. Perform any other official duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.


Preferred Skills:


Experience and Key competences:

  1. Have knowledge and/or understanding of national laws and policies in education to academic excellence;
  2. Strong team leadership skills and demonstrable knowledge of managing an array of student activities and their welfare;
  3. Clear understanding and appreciation of students’ psychology and peculiar needs.
  4. Personable, especially able to relate dynamically with young adults in the modern generation;
  5. Strong public relations and interpersonal skills with all ages;
  6. A keen interest in sports, preferably a sportsman/woman;
  7. Have ability to innovate, plan and execute, and monitor departmental programs.
  8. Have ability to lead, motivate and develop staff under the Student Affairs’ office.
  9. Literacy in ICT and competency in MS Office Applications;
  10. Basic financial knowledge;
  11. Have ability to write reports and diligent to follow through with actions
  12. Have proven experience in counseling, problem solving and conflict resolution.
  13. Be of high ethical standards and professionalism.
  14. Have the ability to chair meetings both internally and externally.
  15. Must be a mature and committed Christian
