Job Description:

Job Title:         Executive Chef

Salary Scale:     CU 9

Location:         Mukono

Reports to:      Catering Officer

Division:           Finance & Administration


  1. Determine how food should be presented, and create decorative food displays.
  2. Determine production schedules and staff requirements necessary to ensure timely delivery of Services.
  3. Estimate and order amounts and costs of required supplies, such as food and ingredients.
  4. Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.
  5. Instruct cooks and other workers in the preparation, cooking, garnishing, and presentation of food.
  6. Monitor sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards, regulations and maintains a neat and orderly kitchen with the highest standards of safety and cleanliness.
  7. Assist to recruit and hire staff, including cooks and other kitchen workers.
  8. Analyze recipes to assign prices to menu items, based on food, labor, and overhead costs.
  9. Arrange for equipment purchases, repairs and maintaining of a correct monthly inventory.
  10. Meet with customers to discuss menus and that of special occasions such as parties, Graduations and banquets.
  11. Prepare, instruct cooks and cook foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for students / guests with special dietary needs.
  12. Collaborate with other personnel to plan and develop recipes and menus, taking into account such factors as seasonal availability of ingredients and the likely number of customers.
  13. Check the quality and quantity of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
  14. Supervises and instructs kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all   kitchen equipment and demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment use - to staff.
  15. Determines the quantities of each food to be prepared daily according to a planned menuusing tested and uniform recipes.
  16. Perform any other official duties assigned by the Supervisor. 

Preferred Skills:


Qualifications and experience

  1. Must hold a Diploma in Hotel Management or Institutional Catering
  2. Must have at least three (3) years working experience in food preparation and presentation in a Hotel or institutional catering or similar environment, also experience serving more than One thousand five hundred (1,500) guests daily.
  3. Must have excellent spoken English.
  4. Must be a mature and committed Christian.
