Agriculture Students win 2000 US Dollars

Two student groups from the Department of Agriculture and Biological Science have won 2000 US$ as seed capital for scaling up their agribusiness ideas.

Gerard Byakatonda, Doreen Kahindo, Ronald Ssewakambo, Eriya Mwabu and Arvin Akampulira developed Nutritive Porridge Project while Agatre Stephen, Censor Brian and Kananura Robert initiated the Piggery Project.

The award was from Venture Hub Project which is implemented by the Department of Agriculture & Biosciences at Uganda Christian University with support from The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture/Master card Agribusiness Challenge Programme. It aims at commercializing crop agriculture and scaling up Uganda Christian University students’ ideas.

The students have also benefited from trainings in areas of agribusiness and enterprise development.

These ideas will be linked to a number of products along value chain as a learning experience and achievement for students in entrepreneurship and innovation. The project is in the process of requesting the University for a one- Stop Show Cafe or Centre for exhibiting and selling these products.
