UPDATE: UCU team finishes 2nd place in East Africa Games

Our sports teams know what success feels like! We returned with 22 Gold, 10 sliver, 5 bronze medals and finished in Second place during the December 2018 East Africa University Games held at the University of Dodoma in Tanzania!

A total of 87 athletes and officials have been flagged off for the 11th edition of the East Africa University Games.These games will take place from 16-21st December and the participating universities from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Tanzania will compete in various disciplines from soccer, athletics, swimming and indoor games at the University of Dodoma.

The Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University (UCU), Rev. Canon Dr. John Senyonyi, while flagging off the team, applauded the sportsmen and women for their tremendous success throughout the years in spite of inadequate funding.b “Our athletes succeed because of teamwork and support from the university so we are very proud of them,” said Senyonyi.
Dr. Senyonyi added that because UCU is a powerhouse of sports, its sportsmen and women will be among those selected to represent Uganda in various competitions such as; World University Games in Napoli, Italy 2019, Federation of African Basketball Zone 5 Championship in October 2019 and Confederation of African Volleyball, Men’s Club Championship in April 2019.
He revealed that the university is in the process of unveiling its 2019-2024 strategic plan and sport is an important aspect included.
Dr. Senyonyi applauded Lady Cardinals and Crested Cranes goalkeeper Ruth Aturo for emerging as Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Female Player of the Year.
“We are delighted to share the glory Aturo received. She could not achieve this without support from the university, her coaches and teammates,”
In November 2018, The Council of Southern Africa Football Association also voted her the best goalkeeper. She is a student at UCU, currently pursuing a Diploma in Business Administration and Management
