Uganda Christian University (UCU) has received a boost to its library stock after it got 80 books, a video camera, voice recorders and a tripod stand donated by The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR)

While receiving the books, Dr. Benon Musinguzi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, revealed that UCU and PASGR have been in partnership for seven years and that the university has benefited through staff capacity development in the area of public policy and research.

“I thank PASGR for the collaboration with us because this is the way to go in this competitive global world where the labour market is in need of highly qualified and efficient personnel,” said Dr. Musinguzi.

PASGR is an independent non-profit organisation established in 2011 and located in Nairobi, Kenya. Currently working in more than 12 African countries, PASGR enhances research excellence in governance and public policy that contributes to people’s wellbeing.

The Head of UCU’s Department of Public Administration and Governance Mr. Martin Kizito said the books are the latest editions in the field of public policy and research.

“We have had a curriculum review process, an extensive pedagogical training, as well as a doctoral clinic in which different teams from UCU participated effectively and one of us, Associate Professor Kukunda Elizabeth Bacwayo, was appointed to the committee which is designing the Doctoral Programme,” he said.

With support from PASGR, UCU is developing a doctoral program for public policy.

The materials will support the teaching of the Masters of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) offered at the main campus in Mukono and UCU Kampala Campus.

Mr. Kizito added that UCU’s MRPP is unique because the curriculum is designed to fit within the African context and it addresses challenges in the public policy sector.

In September 2018, seven UCU staff members were trained by PASGR in multi-method and engendering social science research and impact evaluation governance.

In partnership with academics, researchers, higher education institutions, research think tanks, civil society organisations, business and policy communities both regionally and internationally, PASGR supports the production and dissemination of policy relevant research; designs and delivers suites of short professional development courses for researchers and policy actors; and facilitates the development of collaborative higher education programmes.
